Dream Remembered

 Dream Remembered

A new skald recites-

Her voice it falters

Her words aren’t quite clear as they will be anon.

Oh new skald, though your voice it falters

Say your words, say your words to me.

A new jester stands

He’ll bring joy and laughter

With pratfalls and loss along the way

Come, filled with mishaps and laughter

Share your joy, share your joy with me.

A kind-hearted poet,

Timid in timbre

But a voice that will stand firm someday

Raise your voice and share with the Company

Your words they shine, they shine to me

The art is shared

And the dream is remembered

In the sacred circle and the lessons passed on

Raise your voice, new performer

For your light, your light goes with me.

Across the Sea

‘Twas once in my youth, when moonlight was fading.

And with the dawn, a traveller moved on

For his home was not here.

But where the wind was waiting.

His home it is across the wide sea.

He came to our harbor, a sailor and spirit

For rest and reflection--

He wouldn’t stay long.

He followed the wind and where it had lead him

Far across the wide sea.

He’d been many places

And wandered with pilgrim’s feet

Offering wisdom he gave for free

His home, it is across the mountains and ages

And he went across the wide sea.

He’d come as a song, too brief was our friendship

His sojourn restored him,

His ship moved on.

I think of him when the ships are leaving.

And I hope he is well on the sea.

To Count Yehudah

Noble Learned Lord, uncle and friend

Your voice rings loud and sincere

Rare Rose, on your words I attend.

On your loyal heart: let all hear!

Upright and noble, true friendship inspire

Duty bound, I must admire.

You come like the Gryphone of old,

Courage and fierceness met with pride.

Across leagues when stories are told---

Yea though you modestly hide

Back where my heart did abide

The North star shines bright and clear.

On a Soule I know as royale peer.

After “To the Ladie Arabella'' by Aemilia Lanyer. It is about Count Yehudah ben Yitzhak, one of the first people I met in the Barony of Nordskogen (Twin Cities) he has been a true friend and inspiration to many and someone I have admired for a long time.

Writer's Block

(to Remember O Thou Man)

I’ve got a song to write,

Writer’s block--writer’s block

I’ve got a song to write

Muse, save me!

I’ve got a song to write,

And it can’t take all night

So I’ll plead and fight

Pity---pity!

There is a tune for me,

Isn’t there? Isn’t there?

There is a tune for me.

Please say ‘tis so?

There is a tune for me.

Even if I just can’t see.

I’ll hum endlessly.

Or just go clean.

I’ll scream into the void

Does this rhyme? Does this rhyme?

I’ll scream into the void--.

Oh, please what is my line?

I’ll scream into the void--

I’ll write some other time.

Perhaps I’ll be just fine,

Or maybe not!
